Some watches are built around a design. Others are built around a story.

Project MLF began with a request from Mike, who wanted to create something entirely personal: a stealthy, all-black watch with a custom identity and a meaning that would stay with him for years to come. More than just another custom build, he wanted a timepiece that could preserve a memory.. something unique to him, with details that made it truly his own.

The result is a one-of-one bespoke project that embraces understated design, purposeful details, and a deeply personal touch. From its black PVD-coated case to its fully custom MLF stealth dial, every element was chosen to bring Mike's vision to life.

A Stealth Design, Inside and Out

At the heart of Project MLF is a Sub-style stainless steel case finished in black PVD.

The dark coating gives the watch its unmistakable stealth character, creating a bold yet understated presence on the wrist. Combined with the classic diver silhouette, it delivers a familiar, timeless shape with a more modern and discreet personality.

Rather than relying on bright contrasts or decorative details, the design keeps things dark, clean, and purposeful. It's a watch that doesn't need to stand out loudly to make an impression.

A Ceramic Bezel with a YM Touch

Complementing the black case is a black ceramic sloped bezel insert inspired by the YM style.

Its curved profile adds depth and dimension to the otherwise stealthy design, while the ceramic construction brings a premium feel and excellent scratch resistance. The subtle play between the bezel's contours and the dark case creates visual interest without taking away from the monochromatic aesthetic.

It's a small but important detail that gives Project MLF its distinctive character, blending the familiar proportions of a classic dive watch with a more refined, contemporary finish.

The MLF Stealth Dial: One of One

The centrepiece of this project is undoubtedly the fully custom MLF stealth dial.

Created specifically for Mike, the dial gives the watch its own identity. Its dark design is paired with matching black hands and black lume, maintaining a consistent, almost entirely monochromatic appearance.

Even the luminous details follow the same stealth philosophy. Rather than introducing bright colours or conventional high-contrast accents, the black lume keeps the dial's appearance cohesive and understated.

This is not simply a standard dial paired with a custom case. It's a bespoke design created for one individual, making this configuration a genuine one-of-one build.

Every detail contributes to the same idea: a watch that feels personal without needing to explain itself to everyone else.

NH38: Mechanical Simplicity

Powering Project MLF is the NH38 automatic movement.

Known for its practical design and dependable performance, the NH38 is a natural choice for a watch built around everyday usability. Its no-date layout also complements the clean, uninterrupted appearance of the custom dial.

As an automatic movement, it winds through the natural motion of the wrist and offers the traditional mechanical experience that many watch enthusiasts appreciate.

No unnecessary complications, no date window interrupting the dial - just straightforward mechanical timekeeping in a watch designed around its own identity.

Sapphire Clarity, Built for Daily Wear

Protecting the custom dial is a flat sapphire crystal with anti-reflective (AR) coating.

The flat profile reinforces the watch's clean, modern appearance, while sapphire offers excellent scratch resistance for everyday use. The anti-reflective treatment helps reduce unwanted reflections, allowing the dark dial and its carefully considered details to remain easier to appreciate under different lighting conditions.

It's a practical choice that complements the project's minimalist approach: premium materials, chosen for both appearance and function.

Finished with Black FKM Rubber

Completing the build is a black FKM rubber strap.

Durable, flexible, and comfortable for regular wear, FKM rubber suits the practical nature of a Sub-style watch while maintaining the all-black aesthetic. Its dark finish integrates naturally with the PVD case and ceramic bezel, creating a cohesive look from the case to the wrist.

The result is a watch that feels purpose-built rather than assembled from unrelated parts. Every component works towards the same vision.
