The Pioneer Hybrid is our new collaboration with Namoki, bringing together the aviation-inspired design of the Pioneer dial and the refined proportions of a GS-inspired case. The result is a distinctive pilot-style dress watch that combines the functional character of traditional aviation timepieces with the elegance of a more refined design.

Designed for those who appreciate smaller proportions, thoughtful details, and understated sophistication, the Pioneer Hybrid offers a fresh interpretation of the classic pilot watch.

Paired with elegant syringe hands, a top hat sapphire crystal, and a sand suede strap, this build brings together contrasting elements in a cohesive and carefully considered design.

Design Philosophy

The idea behind the Pioneer Hybrid was simple: create a watch that captures the spirit of aviation-inspired timepieces without adopting the oversized proportions or purely utilitarian appearance often associated with the category.

The Pioneer dial by Namoki provides the foundation, with its aviation-inspired layout and practical, instrument-like character. Rather than pairing it with a traditional pilot-watch case, we chose a GS-inspired case from Namoki, introducing more refined lines and an elegant overall appearance.

This combination gives the watch its unique identity.

It retains the unmistakable character of an aviation-style timepiece while offering a more compact and sophisticated silhouette that feels equally appropriate with casual clothing or smarter attire.

The result is a hybrid in the truest sense: a pilot watch reimagined through the lens of elegant everyday watchmaking.

The Pioneer Dial

At the heart of the build is the Pioneer dial by Namoki.

Inspired by the functional layouts of traditional pilot watches, the dial establishes a clear, instrument-like aesthetic while providing the watch with its distinctive personality.

Its aviation-inspired design creates an interesting contrast with the refined case surrounding it. Where the case introduces elegance, the dial brings character and purpose, ensuring that the watch retains its pilot-watch identity without feeling overly technical or aggressive.

The Sand Suede Strap

Completing the build is a sand suede strap, selected to complement the watch's aviation-inspired character and refined appearance.

The NH38

Powering the Pioneer Hybrid is the NH38 automatic movement.

Known for its straightforward architecture and dependable performance, the NH38 provides a practical foundation for a custom watch designed to be worn regularly.

As an automatic movement, it operates through the motion of the wearer's wrist, offering the traditional mechanical experience that many watch enthusiasts appreciate.

Its time-only configuration also complements the character of the Pioneer Hybrid. Without additional complications competing for attention, the focus remains on the dial, the syringe hands, and the overall design of the watch.

Combined with the sapphire crystal and screw-down crown, the movement helps create a build that balances mechanical watchmaking with everyday practicality.

A Different Kind of Pilot Watch

Created in collaboration with Namoki, this build combines the aviation-inspired Pioneer dial and GS-inspired case with Finemods' approach to custom watchmaking. Rather than following the conventional route of pairing a pilot dial with a large, utilitarian case, we took a different direction.
